Polymarket Withdrawals in the pUSD Era: Why It's Stuck and How to Fix It

Ais Fang· withdrawal · Updated October 2026

Polymarket withdrawals in the pUSD era are limited by the floor max(CollateralReserved, 0.1 × TotalPositionValue): with open Perps positions, at least 10% of total position value stays reserved no matter what your balance shows. Most “stuck” withdrawals trace to one of four causes — open positions, the floor itself, a stale token allowance, or a wrong withdrawal rail.

Why is my withdrawal limited?

The published Perps margin formula:

available = balance − max(CollateralReserved, 0.1 × TotalPositionValue)

Worked example: $10,000 total position value with $500 collateral reserved → the floor is max($500, $1,000) = $1,000, so $1,000 of your balance is untouchable until positions close. The official docs’ own example: with $20 of collateral, $10 is available for withdrawal; with only $5, the position can open but nothing is withdrawable. Below roughly 10x leverage, initial margin already exceeds the floor — which is why low-leverage traders rarely see it.

What is pUSD, and why does it matter for withdrawals?

pUSD (Polymarket USD) is the collateral token for all trading since the April 28, 2026 migration from USDC.e. It is a standard ERC-20 on Polygon (6 decimals), minted only by the Polymarket Treasury, redeemable 1:1 for native USDC with no conversion fee (network gas applies). Reserves sit in segregated accounts with monthly third-party attestation. Two practical consequences:

What are the four common causes of a stuck withdrawal?

  1. Open Perps positions. Margin and open-position value feed the 10% floor; closing positions releases the reserve immediately.
  2. The floor itself. With leveraged books, 10% of TotalPositionValue is a large number — by design, not a bug.
  3. Stale allowance (API/bot users). After the April 28 pUSD cutover, an un-refreshed ERC-20 allowance makes every contract interaction fail with INSUFFICIENT_ALLOWANCE — including withdrawal flows routed through the exchange contract. One-time fix: update_balance_allowance(asset_type="COLLATERAL").
  4. Wrong rail or address. Polymarket’s docs warn against pre-generating withdrawal addresses; chain, token, and recipient must all match your intent.

How long do withdrawals take?

Timing depends on the rail, not the platform:

FAQ

Q: Can I withdraw 100% of my balance with open positions? A: No. The floor is max(CollateralReserved, 0.1 × TotalPositionValue) — with positions open, at least 10% of position value stays reserved.

Q: Is the 10% floor new? A: It applies to the Perps system in the pUSD era (Perps launched April 21, 2026; the 20x/67-market expansion followed September 3, 2026).

Q: Does pUSD ever depeg or expire? A: No expiry and no holding period; it redeems 1:1 for native USDC on demand. It is not algorithmic and not yield-bearing.

Q: Who do I contact about a withdrawal? A: Official channels only. Any DM asking for your seed phrase to “release” a withdrawal is a scam.
